SNAP ADVOCACY 2019
In March 2019, the FPC submitted comments to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) as the agency considered changing requirements for its nutritional assistance program. The proposed change would have made it harder for low-income people in Greater Cleveland and across the country to receive benefits of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. 70% of people who would have been harmed by the rule earn less than $6,245 per year. In Cuyahoga County alone, 204,000 residents participate in SNAP. The program provides a vital lifeline for people to afford food, and studies show SNAP benefits the economy, reduces poverty, and improves health.
